An afternoon in late February. I’m crossing the street in the village of Ologa in western Venezuela. I’ve crossed a few streets in my life, but this is more difficult than most. Ologa is built on stilts over the water and to get from one side to another I must walk over two long unsecured planks.
I try to look dashing and debonair but feel my 81-year-old legs wobbling out of control above the muddy waters below. And the camera’s turning.
It’s my own fault I’m here. Together with my director Neil Ferguson and his loyal crew, we have been looking for places with great potential and great problems after an intriguing visit to North Korea in 2018 whetted our appetite. Since then we’ve headed to Iraq and Nigeria.
