YouTube pays $24.5mn to settle Trump censorship lawsuit

US president sued Google’s video platform after it blocked him from posting following the 2021 attack on the US Capitol

YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5mn to settle a lawsuit that President Donald Trump brought against the video hosting platform after it barred him from posting content following the 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

The video site, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, will pay $22mn of the settlement to the Trust for the National Mall, a non-profit that is helping finance a new $200mn White House State Ballroom, according to a court filing on Monday.

The remaining $2.5mn will be paid out to other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union and writer Naomi Wolf.
