Ousted BP chair Albert Manifold clashed with company secretary Ben Mathews before his removal from the oil major this week, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Manifold was dismissed by the board, which cited “serious concerns” over “governance standards, oversight and conduct” at BP, while people close to the company have alleged that some of his behaviour towards multiple colleagues amounted to “bullying”.
Mathews, one of BP’s longest-serving senior officers, had concerns about the Irish businessman’s conduct before his departure, some of the people said. Mathews declined to comment.
