Optimism about the outlook for China's economy helped lift Asian equity markets yesterday, with commodity stocks among the biggest gainers.
Official data showed that the Chinese economy expanded 7.9 per cent in the second quarter of the year, faster than economists had expected and an apparent confirmation of the impact of the country's stimulus programme on domestic demand.
“Growth in China is driven mainly by very strong domestic demand,” said Flemming Nielsen, senior analyst at Danske Bank. “In particular, investment demand looks extraordinarily strong.
