China urged to probe British man’s death

The UK has requested that China reopen an investigation into the death of a British businessman with close ties to purged Chinese leader Bo Xilai, following requests from British citizens who believe the death was suspicious.

Neil Heywood, a British businessman who had been in China for many years, was found dead in a hotel room last November in the western city of Chongqing, where Mr Bo was Communist party chief until he was fired in mid-March.

Chongqing police quickly ruled that Mr Heywood’s death was caused by “excessive alcohol consumption” and had the body cremated but people who knew Mr Heywood say he was not a heavy drinker.
