Thatcher receives ceremonial farewell

International dignitaries and politicians filled St Paul’s Cathedral in London on Wednesday for the funeral of Margaret Thatcher, in the greatest display of funeral pageantry for a prime minister since Winston Churchill died half a century ago.

Thousands of mourners lined the streets to pay their respects to Britain’s only female prime minister, whose legacy has divided the country.

She was given full military honours and Big Ben was silenced, as her coffin was brought to the cathedral on a gun carriage drawn by six black horses.
