Lenovo, the world’s biggest PC maker by sales, has defied a downbeat laptop market to post double-digit growth in sales and pre-tax profits in 2013, as it continues to shift its business towards servers, smartphones and connected devices.
Lenovo claimed it had overtaken Apple to become the third biggest PC vendor in the US at the end of 2014, behind HP and Dell – although estimates by research group Gartner maintained the company’s spot behind Apple.
Lenovo’s sales rose 14 per cent compared with the year before to $38.7bn, while pre-tax profit was up 27 per cent to $1.01bn.
