China inks deal for up to 75 Airbus A330 jets

China has finally put the seal on a long-awaited order for a fleet of Airbus A330 wide-body jets, in a deal which will see the European aircraft maker expand its industrial operations in Tianjin.

Li Keqiang, China's prime minister, signed the contract for 45 A330 aircraft, worth $11bn at list prices, with an option on a further 30 while on a visit to Toulouse in the south west of France on Tuesday.

Buyers rarely pay the list price for aircraft however and China is likely to have enjoyed significant discounts for ordering dozens of aircraft.
