South Korea’s new president has halted the deployment of a US missile shield in a move likely to please Beijing and raise eyebrows in Washington.
Deployment of four rocket launchers of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence platform, or Thaad, has been suspended, the office of Moon Jae-in said.
The decision was made amid concerns for the future of relations between Seoul and Tokyo, with Mr Moon’s nominee for foreign minister pledging on Wednesday to revive official discussions about Japan’s wartime use of sex slaves.
