Investors who are diving into the bitcoin mania are doing so “entirely at their own risk”, the Banque de France head said on Friday, in the latest warning over the protection offered to investors lured in by the huge rally in prices.
François Villeroy de Galhau told a conference in Beijing that bitcoin’s “value and extreme volatility have no economic basis, and they are nobody’s responsibility,” according to the central bank’s Twitter account.
“The Banque of France reminds those investing in bitcoin that they do so entirely at their own risk,” Mr Villeroy said.
