Taiwan premier tells public to remain calm over toilet paper frenzy

Taiwan’s premier on Tuesday called on citizens to remain calm and not panic after reports of an imminent spike in toilet paper prices saw the island’s supermarket shelves stripped of the daily necessity.

Taiwanese shoppers rushed to buy toilet paper over the weekend, wiping the shelves clean amid reports of incoming price rises thanks to higher global pulp prices. 

Taiwan’s official China News Agency reported that 5m packs of toilet paper had been sold within three days on a local ecommerce site, 22 times the usual volume.
