North and South Korea agree to hold summit on April 27

North and South Korea will hold their first summit in more than a decade on April 27, the South Korean government said on Thursday, as the two Koreas held high-level talks to prepare for the historic meeting.

The two Koreas agreed to hold the upcoming summit at the truce village of Panmunjom, where North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are expected to discuss denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

The high-level talks come after a surprise visit two-day by Mr Kim to China to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping this week, which was apparently aimed at strengthening Mr Kim’s negotiating power ahead of the inter-Korean summit and his planned meeting with US president Donald Trump in May.
