Trump vows to follow air strikes with more sanctions on Russia

The Trump administration vowed yesterday to impose further sanctions against Russia for supporting the Assad regime’s alleged use of chemical weapons, as Syrian government forces renewed a bombing campaign against civilians following US-led air strikes.

The US sought to follow its military action against what it said was chemical weapons sites on Saturday, alongside France and the UK, with stronger economic measures.

“Russia sanctions will be coming down,” said Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, adding that they would be announced today. “They will be going directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use.”
