JD.com chief Richard Liu to shift focus after arrest

Liu Qiangdong, the billionaire founder and chief executive of JD.com, has said he is shifting his focus away from the ecommerce giant’s core business, just two months after he was arrested in the US on suspicion of rape.

The tech entrepreneur, who is also known by the English name Richard, said on Monday that he would start handing some of his chief executive responsibilities to other members of the company’s senior management team and focus more on new businesses.

“Personally, I will focus more on new businesses,” Mr Liu told analysts after the company reported its third-quarter results. “Mature businesses can be handled by the team.”
