Bilateral exports of goods caught up in the first wave of tariffs imposed by the US and China in their continuing trade war have fallen sharply.
The findings run counter to the picture painted by broader data showing that Chinese exports to the US rose 12.6 per cent to a record $393bn in the first 10 months of 2018, according to Chinese customs data from Haver Analytics, a rise that will be greater still in renminbi terms.
They come as presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed a 90-day truce in any escalation of the dispute, although all existing tariffs will remain in place for that period.
