President Donald Trump has claimed victory over Isis in Syria as the White House said it had begun to pull US troops out of the country.
The troop withdrawal hinted at disagreements between the White House and the Pentagon over Syria policy and was branded a “mistake” by one Republican senator.
“We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
