Club Med pushes winter sports in China with ski schools plan

Club Med, the French resort company owned by China’s Fosun Group, will open up to 10 ski schools in China over the next year as it seeks to capitalise on a state-led sports push ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

The company opened its first school in January in co-operation with French ski training company École du Ski Français. Between five and 10 similar facilities will open by next winter, according to Gino Andreetta, Club Med’s China chief executive.

Chinese president Xi Jinping has endorsed plans for 300m Chinese people to take up ice and snow sports by 2022, when China hosts the Winter Games for the first time.
