North Korea launched its latest weapons test on Tuesday morning, despite moves just hours just earlier to restart talks over denuclearisation with the US.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea had fired two unidentified projectiles from the west of the country toward the Sea of Japan. The South Korean military officials did not immediately provide further details on the launch.
On Monday, North Korean officials had signalled Pyongyang could resume negotiations with the US this month, potentially marking a breakthrough after months of stalemate following the third meeting between US president Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in June, at which they agreed to restart working level talks.
