Donald Trump proclaimed that “all is well” after the US president and his top national security advisers huddled at the White House on Tuesday night to plot their response to Iranian missile attacks against US forces in Iraq.
Mr Trump issued his assessment on Twitter after meeting with officials including Mike Pompeo, secretary of state, Mark Esper, defence secretary, and Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and deciding against making a primetime television address to the nation.
“All is well!” the president wrote. “Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.”
