Daniel Martínez-Valle: refocusing an industrial group to ‘do good’

Profits are, literally, the bottom line of any business. But Daniel Martínez-Valle’s objective, in overhauling and dramatically rebranding a Mexican pipe and chemicals company into a vehicle to advance life, is to make two other Ps — people and the planet — matter just as much.

If that sounds a bit hippy-dippy, it unabashedly is: Orbia, formerly called Mexichem, boasts a meditation nook and nursing room in its tasteful Mexico City headquarters.

But Mr Martínez-Valle, 48, a former senior government official, consultant, IT executive and entrepreneur, says the revamp is no trendy gimmick.
