Saudi-backed Savvy Games Group is looking to China and other Asian markets for its next multibillion-dollar deal, after its US studio Scopely acquired the developer behind Pokémon Go earlier this year.
Brian Ward, the games industry veteran who now serves as the Riyadh-based group’s chief executive, said current geopolitical tensions between the US and China created an opportunity for Savvy to strike deals with Chinese developers.
“There is a great deal of development talent in China . . . that are looking for access to international markets,” said Ward. “We think for the right teams we are significantly better placed than a lot of other competitors, American competitors to offer a home to Chinese developers.”
