Say no to a ‘camera on your face’, says Meta smartglasses rival

Shenzhen-based Even Realities pitches itself as a premium alternative that does not harvest user data

Smartglasses from Meta turn you into a “douchebag with a camera on your face” according to a fast-growing Chinese rival that is pitching a data-lite alternative.

Shenzhen-based Even Realities believes that the nascent market is nearing a turning point, where consumers must choose between glasses that harvest data for tech platforms and simpler, “more respectful” alternatives.

It follows the filing of a lawsuit in March alleging that Meta sent sensitive footage gathered by its smartglasses, including customers having sex and using the toilet, to a data-annotation company in Nairobi.
