US President Donald Trump said the weeks-long truce with Iran was “still in effect” after Washington and Tehran blamed each other for sparking an exchange of attacks on Thursday.
Trump said the US strikes on Iran were just a “love tap” after his administration said Tehran had fired “unprovoked” missiles and drones and launched small-boat attacks at three American destroyers that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman.
But Iran’s military accused the US of triggering the clashes, saying it violated the ceasefire that came into effect on April 8 by launching air strikes against an Iranian tanker and another ship travelling towards the strait.
