The White House said President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, his Chinese counterpart, had agreed in Beijing to establish a board of trade, in one of several measures to promote “strategic stability” in US-China relations. “President Trump and President Xi agreed that the United States and China should build a constructive relationship of strategic stability on the basis of fairness and reciprocity,” the White House said on Sunday.
In a factsheet released two days after Trump left China, the White House said the pair had “reached consensus . . . on several issues that will enhance stability and confidence for businesses and consumers around the world”.
It said the leaders had also agreed to set up a board of investment that, along with the trade board, would “optimise the bilateral economic relationship”. It said the trade board would manage trade in “non-sensitive goods” and the other would create a forum to discuss investment issues.
