Junior doctors in England will go on strike for nine more days in December and January, after failing to reach an agreement with the government to secure a better pay offer.
The British Medical Association, the main doctors’ union, said on Tuesday that junior doctors would walk out between December 20 and 23, as well as between January 3 and 9.
The move will come as a blow to the health sector, which warned that the wave of strikes that started in December 2022 has compounded pressures on the NHS, with about 1.2mn operations and appointments cancelled since walkouts began.
