Ukraine accuses allies of ‘turning a blind eye’ to wave of Russian air strikes

Allowing attacks to continue ‘will amount to a global licence for terror’, says Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday chided Ukraine’s western partners for “turning a blind eye” to his country and pleaded for more air defences after Russia unleashed nationwide air strikes on critical infrastructure.

Ukraine’s air force said it had shot down 39 out of 40 Russian drones but just 18 of the 42 cruise and ballistic missiles used in the attack, which targeted power facilities.

If Russian air strikes were allowed to continue without a strong response, “this will amount to a global licence for terror”, Zelenskyy warned on Thursday.
