
The UK government is facing a brewing conflict between improving construction safety rules following the damning report into the Grenfell Tower fire and its already difficult goal of building 1.5mn new homes.
The inquiry chaired by Sir Martin Moore-Bick made a series of demands, including the creation of a dedicated construction regulator, a new licensing scheme for contractors and mandatory fire safety strategies for high-risk buildings.
