Ex-Manchester City striker turned populist picked for Georgia presidency

Mikheil Kavelashvili nominated by ruling Georgian Dream party to succeed pro-EU incumbent

Georgia’s ruling party has nominated Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former Manchester City footballer turned ultranationalist firebrand, as its presidential candidate to replace the pro-EU incumbent.
