The US has said there are “early indications” that Russian air defence systems struck an Azerbaijani plane this week, the latest sign of Moscow’s potential involvement in the deadly crash.
“We . . . have seen some early indications that would certainly point to the possibility that this jet was brought down by Russian air defence systems,” John Kirby, US National Security Council spokesperson, said on Friday.
Washington offered its assistance to the joint Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan investigation “should they want it”, Kirby added.
