Braving sub-zero temperatures and wielding an English-language “Stop the Steal” sign, 69-year-old housewife HK Hong has spent the past week standing vigil outside impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s office.
Yoon has been barricaded inside his compound for a week, defended by his personal security guard, whose presence foiled authorities’ efforts to detain him last week over a tense, hours-long stand-off. Law enforcement has vowed a second attempt.
“Yoon should not be impeached,” said Hong, who travelled to Seoul from the city of Chungju about 50km away with her church congregation. She noted that the president, who has been suspended from his duties, was “elected by the people”.
