Donald Trump claimed credit for reaching agreement after ‘long night of talks’

India and Pakistan accused each other of breaching a ceasefire agreement late on Saturday, just hours after announcing an end to the worst fighting between the two nuclear-armed powers in more than two decades.

India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri said there had been “repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening”.

“The armed forces are giving adequate and appropriate response,” he said, adding: “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations.”
