Dmitry Medvedev’s long march from liberal hope to nuclear threat

Former Russian president goads Donald Trump with bellicose social media posts

Once courted by the west, Russia’s ex-president — turned — social media provocateur Dmitry Medvedev is back in the spotlight after baiting Donald Trump.

The US president in a rare statement last week said he had ordered the repositioning of two nuclear submarines in response to Medvedev’s “highly provocative” comments suggesting America was on the brink of war with Russia.

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
