Javier Milei suffers stinging setback in Buenos Aires polls

Pressure grows on libertarian president over reform agenda and corruption scandal ahead of October midterms

Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei has been dealt a stinging blow in elections in Buenos Aires, the country’s largest province, as voters questioned his reform programme and a corruption scandal ahead of midterm polls next month.

Pre-election polls and market watchers had anticipated a tight race or a narrow government loss.
