Nestlé chair to step down weeks after dismissal of CEO

Early departure of Paul Bulcke follows scrutiny over his handling of probe into Laurent Freixe’s affair

Nestlé chair Paul Bulcke has stepped down weeks after firing chief executive of Laurent Freixe for failing to disclose a romantic relationship with a subordinate.

Bulcke, who was due to step down from the board in April next year, will be replaced by Pablo Isla, Nestlé’s lead independent director who was already chair designate, on October 1.

A Nestlé veteran of 46 years, Bulcke had come under scrutiny in recent weeks for his handling of an investigation into rumours about Freixe’s relationship with a colleague.
