Nancy Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House and a titan of Democratic party politics, will not seek re-election to Congress, ending nearly four decades of public service.
Pelosi, 85, announced her retirement in a video posted to social media on Thursday.
“I will not be seeking re-election to Congress,” Pelosi said in the five-minute video that also served as a love letter to her home city of San Francisco. “With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative.”
