US Congress approves bill to release Jeffrey Epstein files

Legislation forcing the disclosure of more documents must now be signed into law by Donald Trump

The US Congress has voted overwhelmingly to force the Department of Justice to release its files on Jeffrey Epstein, after President Donald Trump abruptly changed course and encouraged Republicans to back the measure.

The bill passed the Republican-controlled House 427-1 on Tuesday afternoon, with all but one Republican endorsing the measure.

Hours later the Senate unanimously approved a deal that paved the way for the bill to quickly pass the upper chamber of Congress with no amendments. The legislation will then need to be signed into law by Trump before it can go into effect.
