General Dynamics manager blames crews for Ajax armoured vehicle problems

Employee commented in response to humorous video highlighting faults reported by soldiers and trial personnel

A manager at General Dynamics has blamed bad leadership and “shite” crews for problems with excessive noise and vibrations in its Ajax armoured fighting vehicles that have affected dozens of soldiers.

Robert Skivington, who identified himself on social media as a manager at General Dynamics Land Systems UK, which has built the Ajax vehicles, left an expletive-strewn post on Facebook in response to a humorous video making fun of the vehicle’s chronic problems.

The comments are sure to feed into doubts about the future of the £6.3bn Ajax programme, which has become a poster child for problems that have dogged defence procurement for decades, with equipment delivered late and over budget.
