Ida Liu to join Europe’s largest lender as head of its global private bank

HSBC has hired former Citigroup executive Ida Liu to head its global private bank, almost a year after she quit the US lender following a clash with its head of wealth, Andy Sieg.

Liu was one of Citi’s most high-profile female executives and spent her last four years at Citi heading its private bank. She started her career in investment banking then became a fashion executive, before returning to banking with a focus on wealthy clients.

“We are delighted to welcome Ida to the team,” said Barry O’Byrne, chief executive of HSBC’s international wealth and premier banking business. “She brings deep expertise in strategic wealth advisory, operational transformation and business growth, and a consistent track record of delivering results.”
