Kosovo ruling party wins fresh mandate and EU sanctions relief

Prime Minister Albin Kurti set for new four-year term after boosting vote share in snap election

Kosovan Prime Minister Albin Kurti is expected to serve another four-year term after boosting his party’s vote share in a snap election, handing the leftwing nationalist a chance to ease relations with western partners and arch-rival Serbia.

Kurti’s Self-Determination party fell just shy of an outright majority, with 49 per cent of the vote, but is likely to govern with support from smaller parties or ethnic minority representatives.

Both Kurti and the opposition had fallen short of a majority in an election in February, leaving the country in a stalemate for most of 2025.
