Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called on US President Donald Trump and his allies to stop threatening to seize Greenland as tensions flared between the Nato allies following Washington’s intervention in Venezuela.
Trump said on Sunday “we do need Greenland”, and the wife of one of his closest allies posted a map of Greenland with the US flag across the Danish territory on the social media platform X, accompanied by the sole word “soon”.
Frederiksen on Sunday evening made her most significant rebuff of Trump and the US following his comments about the vast Arctic island in an interview with The Atlantic.
