CIA director John Ratcliffe has met Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s acting president, in Caracas, becoming the most senior Trump administration official to visit the country since the US’s capture of president Nicolás Maduro.
Ratcliffe met Rodríguez for two hours on Thursday, according to a US official. His visit to Venezuela came two weeks after the US seizure of Maduro.
“Director Ratcliffe travelled to Venezuela to meet with interim President Delcy Rodríguez to deliver the message that the United States looks forward to an improved working relationship,” the official said.
