Welcome back. Success has many fathers (and mothers), failure is an orphan. European policy-makers congratulated themselves for standing firm and bringing about Donald Trump’s head-spinning climbdown on Greenland.

A strategy of “firmness, outreach, preparedness and unity . . . was effective,” European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday night. “Going forward, we should maintain this very same approach.”
