Police have launched a criminal investigation into Lord Peter Mandelson over possible misconduct in public office, as he quit the House of Lords after claims he passed confidential UK government information to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Ella Marriott, a commander at London’s Metropolitan Police, said on Tuesday evening the force had received “a number” of complaints into “alleged misconduct in public office”, including a referral from the UK government.
“I can confirm that the Metropolitan Police has now launched an investigation into a 72-year-old man, a former government minister, for misconduct in public office offences,” she added.
