Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has unveiled a plan to overhaul the country’s electoral system in a move that opponents say aims to cement the power of her ruling Morena movement.

It will also reduce seats in the Senate from 128 to 96, shrink the National Electoral Institute, and end a list system through which parties had chosen their top candidates for lawmakers elected via proportional representation.
