Rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah has swept the first general election since a Gen Z revolution toppled Nepal’s government last year, according to preliminary and partial results.
By early Sunday, Shah’s centrist Rastriya Swatantra Party — founded only four years ago — had won 104 of 165 directly elected seats. It led in 21 other constituencies, unseating traditional parties.
The final tallies in the constituencies, plus 110 seats allocated through proportional representation, are expected early next week, with ballot boxes still being collected from remote mountain villages in the northern parts of Nepal.
