Time to scrutinise populism’s ‘supply side’

Populist parties are riding high across many western democracies. But hitherto, we have missed a key to their success: a highly entrepreneurial business model that profits from disruption.

The “demand side” for rightwing populism is thoroughly dissected. Endless polls tell us in detail about the political market of disappointed voters, pessimistic about the future, angry at a broken politics and prepared to roll the dice with alternative leaders. Even to risk an extreme policy prospectus that would damage economies and social cohesion.
