Google to invest up to $40bn in Anthropic

Search giant increases its financial support to help the AI lab add computing power to run its models

Google has struck a deal to invest up to $40bn in Anthropic, including $10bn upfront, as the search giant steps up its support for the start-up, which is racing to acquire enough computing power to sustain its growth.

A further $30bn investment will come in the future, contingent upon Anthropic meeting certain performance milestones, the start-up said without specifying what those criteria are.
