Sir Keir Starmer has refused to quit after a disastrous night for Labour at the polls, insisting: “Days like this don’t weaken my resolve to deliver the change that I promised.”
With the first results in, Labour is heading for the worst local election results by any party this century. The prime minister accepted responsibility as Reform UK surged to victories across England.
Speaking in Ealing, west London, on Friday morning, Starmer said: “The results are tough, they are very tough, and there’s no sugarcoating it.” He added: “That hurts, and it should hurt, and I take responsibility.”
