Trump says US and Iran will sign deal on Sunday to reopen Strait

Tehran cautions that timing is unclear but Pakistan says agreement to extend ceasefire is close

Donald Trump said the US and Iran would sign a deal to extend a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, although Iran cautioned that the timing was still unclear.

The US president made the comments on his Truth Social platform hours after Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said an “electronic signing” of a memorandum of understanding was expected within 24 hours.

“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump said. “Our relationship with Iran is a much different and better one than previous Administrations have had.”
