New Yorkers are poised to deliver the first verdict on the AI industry’s growing political power, in a record-breaking Democratic race pitting a Big Tech critic against a scion of the Kennedy clan.
The primary race in New York’s 12th district in Manhattan has become a proxy battle for how to regulate AI, with more than $26mn spent in recent months by groups partly funded by people close to OpenAI or its rival Anthropic.
The sums make it the most expensive race ever in the solidly Democratic US House district. The vote closes on Tuesday evening.
